Three Benefits Of A Narrow Mower Deck

Posted on

One of the things that you'll need to think about when you shop for a new ride-on lawn tractor is what width of mower deck will best suit you. For many people, a wider mower deck can be appealing. The primary advantage of a wide deck is that you can cut your grass faster, which may be handy if your yard is large or you don't have a lot of spare time to devote to this work. You shouldn't automatically lean toward a wide deck, however. You'll also find lawn tractors with mower decks that are more narrow, and there are several advantages to choosing this type of product.

Less Garage Space

It's important to think about where you'll be parking your lawn mower when it's not in use. For a lot of people, the answer is in one bay of their garage. A parked lawn mower takes up a fair bit of space in the garage, but when the mower deck is wide, it uses up even more space. It may be difficult for people to walk around the parked machine when they're working in the garage when the mower deck is wide. You may even worry about tripping over the deck. This won't be as much of an issue with a narrow mower deck.

Easier To Maneuver In Your Yard

Not every yard is a vast, open area. Lots of yards have plenty of obstacles, including trees, gardens, and more. This means that you need to be able to skillfully maneuver around these obstacles when you're cutting the grass. You may find that you're more confident driving a lawn tractor with a narrow mower deck because it's easier to get around obstacles. Bumping into a tree with the deck of your mower can damage the mower deck or harm the tree. These collisions will be less likely when your deck doesn't stick out as much.

Lighter Weight

You might not plan to leave the mower deck on your lawn mower at all times. For example, if you plan to mount a snowblower attachment on the front of the mower for the winter, you'll first need to remove the mower deck and store it. A narrow mower deck not only takes up less storage space in your garage, but it's also lighter and thus easier to move by hand. Visit a lawn tractor dealer to assess various models and note the available mower deck widths.
